It has been an eventful couple of weeks, I keep reminding myself to blog to keep track of all my progress. Virginia Research Lodge has finally gone live: https://www.researchlodge.com. This replaces the old site at https://www.researchlodge.org, which was a SharePoint site. That site collection is now shut down, just two months after upgrading to SP 2016 because I had no option.
I am now working on https://www.douglasweb.com, which is also still in SharePoint. My main issues have involved getting email to still work with Namecheap while hosting the website in Azure. It has been a serious challenge, and I have run down many rabbit holes. At least I am learning a lot, but it is frustrating!
I know I promised to make videos of each step, I have fallen behind in my push to salvage my websites and retire SharePoint. I won't have that excuse for long. There are plenty of specific things I have learned that I hope will be beneficial to others, I will make bite-size YouTube videos for the whole process, hopefully it will make it easier for people trying to do what I am doing. Hopefully. I know my audience is out there.
Today I am working on my Chevalier list, I manage a dinner for local members and track for the entire state. It's fun to actually make use of this data I am collecting, I have found many ways to reproduce SharePoint capabilities in MVC, such as creating views and filtering. SharePoint is a good model upon which to base a design. I am already very familiar with what SharePoint offers, and want to continue to have that functionality. Like I said, I am learning a lot along the way.
